WE ARE BELIEF

WE ARE BELIEF

Belief blends football, mentoring and aspirational workshops to create living learning environments where personal growth is as important as performance.

We do this through our three core principles - our Language of Belief.

Confidence - Build self-belief through challenge and ownership

Creativity - Encouraging curiosity, adaptability and expression

Resilience - Developing persistence, perspective and recovery

What Belief Do…

We operate between football, mentoring and education services - evolving with each environment we are privileged to be working in.

  • Play-based environments where young people explore Belief’s Language of Play through small-sided games.

  • An inter-school competition celebrating effort, expression, and teamwork as much as results.

  • Post-16 students mentor younger peers through relational sessions on mindset, reflection, and goal setting.

  • Practical life, leadership, and employability modules delivered through community projects.

  • Embedding Belief coaches into school systems to deliver mentoring, leadership, and enrichment.

Why Belief?

Young people are being forgotten.

  1. Child Poverty
Child poverty in the UK has reached 36% — the highest level this century (End Child Poverty, 2023).
Nottingham’s poverty levels are among the highest outside London: 41% of children live in poverty in Nottingham city (Nottingham Child Poverty Commission, 2023).

  2. The COVID Impact
The gap between advantaged and disadvantaged pupils is now the widest in over a decade (Education Policy Institute, 2022). Persistent absence has risen sharply nationwide — and Nottingham city has one of the highest rates in the East Midlands.

  3. The Mental Health Crisis
NHS data shows 1 in 6 young people now suffers from a diagnosable mental health condition. Schools report rising anxiety, social withdrawal, depression and low motivation — especially among pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. Access to counselling and school-based mental health support remains underfunded and overstretched.

Nottingham is being forgotten.

  1. Crime & Youth Safety
Nottingham consistently records above national and regional averages across multiple crime categories, particularly antisocial behaviour and weapon-related offences (Nottinghamshire Police, 2023). Youth services were cut significantly over the last decade — meaning many young people no longer have safe spaces to go after school.

  2. Education Attainment
Nottingham underperforms in both GCSEs and A-Levels compared to national averages (DfE 2023), contributing to higher risk of NEET outcomes (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
    Disadvantaged pupils are most affected.

  3. Community & Cultural Investment
Recent analyses show Nottingham receives significantly less investment in youth, sport and culture than comparable UK cities — leaving community organisations overstretched and young people underserved.

This leads to a lack of aspiration. A lack of Belief.

Our Vision

A generation of young people who play, learn and live with confidence, creativity and resilience - shaping a more compassionate and connected world through sport and education.
